If you boot with a bartPE disk, will the system stay up? If it will, then the problem is HD or software. BartPE has some HD tools built in. Next step would be to back out the drivers and reinstall them.

You know, it is quite helpful to provide links... Google is often a terrible resource.

Backing out drivers is not possible when the problem is most certainly a failing hard drive.

Get that new drive in and slave this one. Then copy over what you need.

If your harddrive is failing, than I recommend that you purchase a new harddrive and attempt to back-up all the files you wish to do so.

I would provide you a link in which to buy a new harddrive, but you like to buy computer components from fairs, and I don't know of any in your area of California.
