Re: MM\'s RPG by Christmas?
unfortuneatly, they are only a very small development house. you can bet whatever it is wont have state of the art graphics or technology, so it must rely on innovative ideas and compeling gameplay. those features must also be unique from other software titles.
many developers, especially big name ones with massive staff, operate by stealing whatever latest idea comes out of some other publishing house. I just read an interview with one of the NeverWinter Nights guys, and he said point blank that they would wait and see what another software developer did with their particle system, and copy that. This happens ALOT.
MM is small, and their success relies on the uniqueness and coolness of the ideas going into the game. If a big company with a big staff hears about something cool, they will just copy it, and stick the feature into one of their 'in production' games. and when they do, you will buy that instead, because it will already have better graphics and more advanved technology and higher polish. now it will have the cool feature and innovative idea too, so there is nothing left for MM.
sad world, but thats the way it spins. certainly not easy being the little guy.

Re: MM\'s RPG by Christmas?
I agree that they will need very solid gameplay and features because of the lack of tehnology/graphics.
However, we're entirely 100% in the dark, and I think that MM could give out a general idea of the game (3d Space-based RPG, etc.) without divulging any State secrets.
I've been so happy with SEIV (and SEIII) that I am very interested in this next project of theirs.

LoL.
You're in an information vacuum and you're still excited about the game. That's the type of deal marketing guys sell their souls for.
From Malfador's track record, the game will probably be 2d, tile based, turn based and deeply complex. Then again, it may be Pong.
Isn't uncertainty exciting?

pac-man style. the rpg thing is just a misdirection, they will actually be catering to the classic arcade market. you play a drushaka and try to gobble up as many EEE as possible.

I'll admit that only the fact that Aaron and MM have such a solid track record allows me to be excited about an information vacum. Anyone else and I'd be totally unconcerned.

Re: MM\'s RPG by Christmas?
Until it goes to our side for testing you probably won't hear much about it. I have played an early build of the game and I like it .
