I only play TDM mod pack AI with the highest bonus'. Yes, I've lost. I've had games where those *bleep* Space Vikings were sending wave after wave of fleets to overwhelm my minefields. Once the minefields were gone, my empire fell quickly.... Lost at one game or another to most TDM mod pack AI, but I'd say the Space Vikings are the nastiest...

I recommend the highest AI bonus' for a challenging game.

I lose to the AI, but mainly because I fail to keep track of stuff after a while

Sure, I lost to the AI in the beginning. I lost several games of SE III while trying to figure out what the heck was going on. I also lost to the Jraenar the first time I encountered them. It was very early in the game, and as PvK said above, some races can be pretty nasty when they have an early advantage and show up nearby.

This is something human players also like to do to newbies, and even not-so-newbies.

I have lost to the AI. I do not know if I still lose to the SEIV stock AI. I have added too many created races to my game and usually use the random feature to add opponents to the game. I usually do not choose settings which tend to make my race have "super being qualities". I try to have a modest race with specific skills. I have lost on occasion to some specially made races. Usually this occurs with very aggressive, advanced races that happen to be really close to where my home systems are. With this being said. I still do not think I'm a very good player. I tend to find some of the AI opponents challenging. I suppose beating the AI all depends on my skill level, how I have set up the game, and what races are playing as my opponents.
