I've got tix to the 7:45 showing tonight. Spent all week watching my Firefly DVDs too. I can't wait.
The DVD collection was a nice price gift to myself. I loved it.

Took off from work today @ noon and went to AMC 24 to see it. Wrote this to several friends later today:

Well, as a prejudiced Serenity/Firefly fan, I can give it two thumbs up and say I enjoyed it more than the Star Wars movies I’ve seen.

It has a good deal of action and when the action has quieted down, there’s pretty tense drama as a replacement. All the characters are true to form and background from the series carried over. Not sure how well the movie works for those who never saw the Firefly series as it’s difficult to say if they were left with questions or not since, as a series viewer, I had more history to flesh things out with. The movie should surprise you in a few places. And there are more one-liners that get audience chuckles than we are used to seeing in Arnold movies…but that’s true to the Firefly series of what I call, “a serious crew but with a sense of humor”. As a fairly devout supporter of the effort, I’d have to say a few emotions swelled up on me as I really appreciated various parts of the movie and was glad to see how well they were carried out. And like any good book, sad that the move had come to an end knowing if there is a sequel, it will be a long way off. Oh, and as homage to all the support of the fans, you’ll see/hear reference to “Can’t stop the signal” (which is/was the byline of a lot of the different groups of supporters) more than once.

Theatre was over half full…not bad for that time of day.

You should enjoy the movie.

Sorry, but everybody dies.
The real question is when.

Actually I thought that some of the character performances were a bit flat, and that that about 2/3rds into the film, the plot kinda died with the whole save the universe thing...But considering this is probably 6 months to a year after the end of the series, and it seems they have been on hard times with money and jobs and such, it might explain alot of how they were feeling/acting...I think the series was better, and the movie tried to capture as much of that as it could in spots, but really didn't get all of what I loved in the series...Good film despite all of that.

I thought it was pretty good... Some great special effects (the space fleet battle was really nice), but the rest seemed rather moderate quality. Good Character development with the captain and some primary crew (and the girl), but others were practically written out. I guess it is hard to compete with the gold standards of Star Wars / Star Trek, or dare I say Battlestar Galactica (the TV series)...

This series pioneered a lot of what you now see in BSG and even in the last Star Wars movie. The movie was a lot darker than the series and given the fact that it was dramatically cut down for $$ and time sake, I think they pulled it off brillantly.

By far its one of the best Sci-Fi movies I have seen in a good long time not counting ROTS.

I would give it a 7 out of 10.
