Here's an idea for making it more visible against a space backdrop... why not put some sort of glow or border enhancement on the image, so that it sort of looks like an outline of a ship? (That would be a cool effect for cloaked ships too, BTW... the ship with the little dotted circle around it used in SE4 is SO dorky

)
