Re: Tien Chi - why no \"immortal\" pretender?
yeah, but no just "immortal"
It would be nice I think to mod away one of the current immortal pretenders for one that matches the theme better.

The phoenix fits in pretty nicely with the theme. It's awfully cute, too. In my mind's eye, all the Banknotes of the Realm have that thing's face printed on them. You can't stay mad at that, even if it did just kill your prophet and seize your Steel Ovens.

Re: Tien Chi - why no \"immortal\" pretender?
Oh, by the way...
It seems that playing without Order and Productivity is usually a suicide.
Order reduces chance of random events.
Tien Chi has very cool national heroes.
Is this possible to play Tien Chi _effectively_ and still be able to get one of national heroes ?

Heroes aren't affected by order or turmoil, IIRC.

But when a hero appears at your gate, it's a random event, right ? So it's probably much harder to get a national hero if you take Order scale.

Re: Tien Chi - why no \"immortal\" pretender?
Chance to get an hero is a straight formula linked to Luck/Misfortune. You have a 6% chance per turn of getting a hero with Luck 3, 1% with Misfortune 2, and 0% with Misfortune 3.
While Order is very common in Dominions, Productivity is a lot rarer, especially when playing without scale mods. Since national units are often not the core of an army, a lower amount of resources does not usually hurt so much (and Productivity only has a slight impact on gold production now).

i was told (and have now learnt) that heros do not count as a random event but having luck 3 makes your chance of getting heros very high (compared to luck 0)

Both Barbarian Kings and Spring and Autumn require Turmoil. They are likely to compensate for this by taking a Luck scale. They will tend to get the national heroes quite soon. Both can be played effectively, although in the unmodded game, Barbarian Kings is somewhat underpowered. The base theme prefers order, and will therefore often take misfortune to get points. They'll tend to get the heroes much more slowly. However, the base theme isn't a good candidate for a bless strategy, and might not require an expensive pretender. One might choose not to mine misfortune for points, hoping for help from the heroes.

Re: Tien Chi - why no \"immortal\" pretender?
I love playing Tien Chi with Turmoil 3 and Luck 3. I also take Sloth 3, Heat 3, Death 3, and pile all the points into Magic 3 and a double-major blessing (level 9 or 10).
Whether this is effective or not is unclear. Anybody want to challenge me to a 1-vs-1 quick match on Clash of the Titans? :-)
