Re: Flat Planel Displays Are WAY Better
Certain types of plastic react very poorly to alcohol. Other types aren't affected at all. Your guy could very well have used them on his with no problem if he had the right kind.
I would want to know for sure what an LCD screens is made of before touching it with an alchohol wipe. If the outer surface is glass you should be ok, but if it's some sort of polymer or if the glass has an anti-reflective coating you could be in trouble. You should always refer to the manufacturers instructions. The LCD manufacturers, not the wipe manufacturers that is.

Re: Flat Planel Displays Are WAY Better
I have a 18" flat panel monitor... (I know 18" sounds weird, but trust me! NEX Multisync LCD 1880SX")
I used CRT's for so many years, and I always gave the advice to people to go for a big crt rather than a tft if you have the cash, but the truth is now, I would advise this every time
image looks so much sharper, even better than a flat crt, no horrible black border, and unlike early ones, I can view at all angles, and it is bright.
It just looks better, and everything about it feels better.

Re: Flat Planel Displays Are WAY Better
I've used the alcohol wipes for years on both my monitors without problems. But yeah, you should probally refer to the manufacterer.
With LCDs, it's a lot sharper, because you don't have to mess with the path of electrons hitting the correct pixels on the screen. The no black border is cool, makes me look at CRT monitors and wonder if that's what I really had to suffer with for years.

Re: Flat Planel Displays Are WAY Better
The biggest screen size is about 60 inches. In other words, really really big.

Re: Flat Planel Displays Are WAY Better
Well, after seven years of dedicated service, my Compaq monitor finally bit the big one, refusing to power up, etc., etc. So, I just ordered a Samsung to replace the old soldier. This means a viking funeral for both computer and screen now... Guess I am making a trip to the coast this weekend.
