When I installed SP2 my computer no longer booted, so I have since reinstalled SP1 and all the critical updates. My system works like a charm. Aparently SP2 does not like some motherboards. I have an ECS Elitegroup K7S5A.

here ends my knowledge of SP2, good luck.

Cheers!

Well actually I had avoided installing SP2 cause some people mentioned trouble, but what with my infection the help websites said install SP2 or you're just wasting time. Anyhow I just thought of something. We had a new power point installed last week and I put the computer on that. It's not outside the realms of possibility it is faulty and has power glitches. Except if power gets cut the modem would switch off so I might be wrong.

I have SP2 on my computer and the only thing I can say is that after you install it, you have to reconfigure your whole system. It will make ALL microsofty programs the default. Try disabling 'Messenger' and 'Outlook' in your "Set program access and defaults" on the "Start" menu bar. Make sure you check ALL the settings in the control panel for your power backup. Right click on 'my computer' and check all your hardware setting. Just look them all over and make sure that they have the current hardware listed that YOU have on your computer. AND last, check your bios settings!
Hope this helps.
