Yah, I get the feeling scar was supposed to be starbucks raider. Why else would they have shown clips from that episode in the "previously on BSG" segment.

As for the whole Chiggy Von Richthofen situation, it is an old theme taken from history, hence the name, being a reference to Mafred von Richthofen, a historicly over emphasized character from WWI. On a side note, if you ever get the chance to read his book I would recommend it, while probably not the best written piece, it really has a feeling of the man behind the myth.

Anyways, yah, common theme, done well in this episode, though, Starbuck was written a little over the top with her alcoholism for my tastes.

It bothers me though that really nobody in the series has refused to crack. Some people in situations like this stick their guns and refuse to even deal with the situation of the disaster and it never really effects them for years, if they ever show it at all outwardly.

How many people can say that their civilization was nearly and completely wiped off the face of the earth?

I'm honestly surprised they aren't falling apart more. Sure, a lot of them have stuck back into the colonial life mentality, but I wonder how many took thier own lives when faced with the reality all their loved ones, friends, and homes are gone for good. How many cracked had to be committed? I guess the closest example might be Native Americans whose culture has been reduced to heavy drinking, casinos, small reservations, and diabetes.

I am not saying that people wouldn't crack. A lot would, a lot would take a long time to deal with it if they ever could. But some people, just don't deal with these things. There's a clinical term for it, I just can think of what it is, where emotional stresses don't really effect people. Dissasociation maybe? It is especially easier to deal with these sorts of things when you don't see them directly, and of course, a lot of the survives were aboard ships in transit, and as such didn't see the destruction as it is happening.
