Yeah, disable auto updating. I just have it set to notify me when there are updates and then I'll see what they are before applying them. You should also be able to unapply the patch as well - just look for the patch number thingy and then check your add/remove program list.

I guess MS is fighting a no-win battle. People complain because there are vulnerabilities and so they make patches; then people complain about the patches...
