Arty too effective against hard targets
I know this has been mentioned before, at length ...
Anyway, my observations:
1) The hits on vehicles are usually when they are in hexes adjacent to the impact point.
2) It's not just arty, you get the same effect with any HE round that has an area effect. I have especially noticed it with HMGs and their "spray" thing.
I would say (unscientifically) that there is a hit on an adjacent vehicle with about 25% of shots fired. There is no problem with the effect of these hits, that all seems accurate.
Perhaps this is related to the thing of HE rounds being more effective in adjacent hexes than they are in the actual impacted hex? The old "Z fire" problem ...

Re: Arty too effective against hard targets
Hi
Regarding this subject, i've seen several times messages like
'pen 5 arm 1' but with the standard ricochet sound and no damage to the AFV.
Is this a special survivability feature or something that might need adressing ?

Re: Arty too effective against hard targets
with what ammo type?
HE will not necessarily penetrate if pen > armour (overpen) is less than IIRC 6. From overpen equal to 5cm over, there is now a %age chance that increases with the overpenetration, that the round does no damage. So oberpen of 0, little chance and overpen of 5, bigger chance.
AP overpen only aplies with small warheads, and overpen<=1 IIRC, and is ignored at under 100 yds range.
ATR (warhead 2 or less, AP shot, weapon class 2) - does less damage once pentration has ocurred in the patch just released. It has less chance of a total vehicle kill, and also less chance if not a total kill, of causing crew or weapon kills ("*" results).
The original SSI code went through for pen >= armour in all cases, apart from ricochets.
Cheers
Andy

Re: Arty too effective against hard targets
wow fast reply ! thanks
That was actually a 7.5cm german off map artillery bombardment on some A9/A13 UK tanks, so with ammo HE
So I understand that i can't see a pen 7 arm 1 not penetrate but at lower diff there is a chance that it actually didn't go through. And at high overpen anyway it can go through the tank without hitting anything ?
there are a couple other things that bug me but i'll make another post as they're not arty related, will try not to flood the forum with thing that might have been fixed in the brand new patch
