So lemme get this straight - casting Soul Gate overrides the Ashen Empire effect, beginning to generate spirits instead of corporeal undead?

If I understood it correctly, it doesn't override anything. Of course, when you get to Conjuration 8, you've probably ran out of bodies... but if you can advance to previously "safe" territory thanks to the addition of the spectral armies, you would get the normal zombies too.

Re: Screenies!
Err... I don't remember troop production ever stopping for me when playing AE. Last I checked, longdead don't need fresh corpses to come popping out of the ground, which can easily lead to four-figure armies if the game is long enough and Ermor is left to its own devices. Unless something's been changed, I expect it'd be a tad overpowering with the addition of the Soul Gate effect.

Re: Screenies!
Perhaps Carrion Woods and Soul Gate can be restored through modding.

All the summoning spells changed into level 0, the globals made cheap enough to be cast on the first turn. The globals could still be dispelled, given enough time, so the nations would also have to hoard as much gems as possible.

Re: Screenies!
Hmm, sounds like an unelegant solution. =/
I must say that from what I've gathered the late era sounds pretty disapointing, some things like Dreamlands excluded...

Re: Screenies!
The Grand Thaumaturag doesn't count , he is exactly the same as the BE one, only with +10% to his randoms (and slightly different randoms)

He's also old, more powerful priest and reanimator, can preach etc etc. He mightn't look that different, but the changes on him alone are pretty big. If you want to test what Grand Thaumaturg's will be like in Dom 3, the easiest way is to mod them to have Holy 4 and Unholy 4, and not reanimate the best creature they could.
EA Ermor has Arch Bishops (of Eldregate), but there aren't any mages that would directly transfer into later, undead mages. Augur Elders are their most powerful, and oldest, mages. At 60/48 years old, most will probably get an affliction or two in a few years (few dozen turns), despite their skill in Death. I haven't actually tested it, though. Catching a disease is, of course, much more rare.

Re: Screenies!
As seen in the recruitment screen, the big empires sometimes can utilize non-human soldiers in their forces. EA Ermor can recruit Lizard Auxiliare.

Hm interesting...however I guess that I will prefer mid/late Ermor.

Re: Screenies!
Today's reiterated request -- R'lyeh Dreamlands mage or priest.
Also, Man's gotten no love at all and, while I never played them, I'm kind of curious to know if I might this time around.
Also, how about some Jotunheim love? We haven't seen anything regarding the giants. Anything new and exciting about one of their eras?
