I agree it's not a bad idea to have the host ask and set a form for email. I think it's necessary, as there are certain matters that can be resolved quickly. Try arranging a trade between two empires with the message delay...ick!

You must continue some comms in the game, at least to give potential "eavesdroppers" something to hear or block. Perhaps email can be limited to large discussions that really cannot be done only in the confines of the game's comm channels.

The reason I like emails is because I can then refer to them later and work out what the hell it was I just agreed to.

I guess I could just keep copying the text out of the message and keep my own log thou. Then I could say thing like "Well on 2403.4 you agreed that your ships wouldn't enter the Silinta system. I knows that its now 2424.8 but a deal is a deal and now you must die". That would be cool.
