I have not used slingers (why does anyone?), but my Konoha Tengus' with Fire & Flee orders reliably attack after they use their one shot of lightning.

Slingers are actually semigood in early age since pretty much everybody has sucky armor.

Not if they're not firing the slings.

Slingers work with Pythium (middle age). Te orders "fire closest" or "fire archers" work fine. The Pythium Standard bearer seems not to lure the slingers into melee fighting like the marverni horn blower.

Don't the Pythium Standards have Javelins?

The problem is in fact more rare and mysterious than I've imagined. I thought that a soldier not able to fire in a javelinists/slingers squad was the cause, but after dozens of tests with some triarii in a javelinist squad from EA Ermor ordered to fire closest, I must say it's not the case. In about 1/20 fight the throwers forget their javelins, in other cases they fire normally even with a pure melee troop with them.

This phenomenon is getting to be a pain. I've just had a unit of aka-oni flame throwers stop shooting and charge to their deaths when one of their number was injured now.

Do we have a consensus on Bug/WAD?

Actually, I've seen many times when an archer got 'lost and arm' affliction and charged into battle. However, his squad mates would continue firing. It's probably something that either happens at random or there is some special conditions that trigger it. Try getting some save games with replays of such behaviors, it may help the devs to root it out.

Meh, this has just happened again with the Yomi. I'm sick of it, and have put it in the bug thread. It really needs a fix.

Having an entire squad forget about its missile weapons and charge in hand-to-hand is not something I can remember at all from Dom2.
