Except for when the master with the iron crutch dies of his disease unfortunately, which causes him to be dead forever.

I thought he was just reborn with 1 hp every turn until his disease got healed. I might be wrong, of course. I've been wrong before.

Re: National Heroes
Etimmu the mounted, armed and armored, immortal, D3H3 (IIRC, maybe H2?) Wraith Lord is a nasty piece of work. There's also the immortal, vampiric Blood Marshal.
I haven't seen Father Bart lately, but he was quite the mage in D2 -- although it would not surprise me if he came with severe Old Age this time around. Plus, he's as frail as an ordinary human.
It might also be noted that while most nations have a finite number of heroes, there are nations with a hero template (ex. a decent knight commander) for which they can get multiple ones.

Re: National Heroes
I've seen several.
Arco has a priestess that can heal and about different paths of 1 to 2 each and holy. It also has a minotaur looking guy with something about a maze in it's name with decent stats and trample.
Shinuyama has an "something the heart hider" who is immortal, good stats, and F1 D1.
Kailasa has a hero that looks like the demon hunter pretender with B3.

Re: National Heroes
heh I'd really like to get a hero actually. Perhaps I'll take the much less optimal turmoil 2, luck 3 instead sometimes ...

Re: National Heroes
The chance that a hero will appear in a given turn is (3 + luck scale)%. So at luck 3 it's a 6% chance per turn, and at misfortune 3 the chance is 0% per turn.

Re: National Heroes
I have so far received two heroes for Pythium and both are pretty lame. One was a gladiator that wasn't any better than an emerald lord IIRC and the most recent was an old serpent rider who maybe in his heyday was as good as your typical serpent rider commander but since he had all the stat drops from being old he was worse in a lot of ways. The only thing he had was twice as much leadership. What's the point of heroes if they aren't, y'know, really cool. As it is now I don't feel lucky to get a hero beyond just the novelty factor.

Unless the iron crutch guy is a special case, that is what happens. In a recent game my Phoenix pretender managed to get diseased and kept dying and returning with 1hp (don't think there were messages saying he'd died of the disease, it'd just reset his orders each turn and he was permanently at 1hp) until the disease cleared.
