Re: Is possible to set auto-upgrate to designs?SE
The trick would be to make components not have levels.
Instead of ability amounts dependent on the level of the component, just link them directly to the empire's tech level.
Or if you want to get fancy, keep the levels, but use tech level or component level +5, whichever is less. That way you get 5 free and automatic upgrades before you have to retrofit.

But if you want to use stock, or use a mod that doesn't do this- you'll have to do it manually.
SJ, how does the AI handle your auto-upgrading components? I'm thinking they might be a good rare-tech (ruins) item for my mod. A discovery that provides auto-updating components when normally you have to retrofit.

The AI wouldn't see any difference, but their ships in the field still get the upgrades.
The AI dosen't mind all the redesigning, but it does save the human players a lot of time.

Re: Is possible to set auto-upgrate to designs?SE
i hope in a next patch they could solve this problem the game is great, i mean GREAT! and if is well promoted and polished will be a clear sucess, but these and other little things -like the ship search (space) that include the ships in fleets- turn the gameplay somewhat tedious
btw do you know about a mod to help me with this problem -the upgrades-??

The game hasn't been out long enough to build a library of mods.
But KwokStock should help a lot; see the Balance mod thread for a link.

SJ: Good. I was afraid the AI would try to retrofit even though the old designs were being auto-upgraded.

Well, they'll still want to retrofit them.
And it is still good to retrofit when available, since that extends your free upgrades to 5 more than the new level.
