Re: Big Cheese Thread ~~~
You can colonize planets without any population in your cargohold! Your ship's crew will be converted into 1M population. (To be changed in the patch a bit) And with migration your colony will grow no problem. You can use the cargo space on your colony ship for a weapon's platform or satelite instead.

You can pick both Natuarlly Depressed and Emotionless in the race setup. So your Emotionless pick will only cost you 500 points!

Fighters make better ground troops than ground troops! More weapons, can take more damage, move faster, and are not hindered in their movement by obsticles.

Re: Big Cheese Thread ~~~
Most of these exploits will likely be fixed in the next patch.
Also, it's far more challenging to depend on the AI during combat. Although it is somewhat weak, it mostly just needs to be patched and then there will be an entirely new dimension of gameplay in learning how to make the best use of the combat AI, like in SE4.

Re: Big Cheese Thread ~~~
Just wanted to note that there was absolutely no need for 5 posts here. Not only could all of them have been put in one post with the appropriate padding (which was also unnecessary, I might add; they aren't any kind of spoilers), but the majority of the forum dwellers here follow the tradition of having their views set "backwards"... meaning your first post is at the bottom of the page for us.
As for the exploits themselves, most gamers would figure out that it is easy to out-think the combat AI and that the Naturally Depressed + Emotionless combo is the way to go if you actually want the Emotionless trait without much thought at all. Neither of them is likely to be "fixed" in a patch; the former because no matter how you slice it, attack ships will need to close into range, and the latter because Aaron has a history of leaving balance issues of that sort to modders. Fighters as troops, most gamers would figure that out as well once they find that they can be used that way. This is more likely to be "fixed", probably in the form of modifying actual ground troops to be able to more easily shoot down fighters.

Re: Big Cheese Thread ~~~
Choose racial traits: Gas Giant, Oxygen. Most races are Rock/Oxygen, so you'll have a much better selection of planets, and migration will still go well for you.
BalanceMod: Put everything in outer slots.

Ok Will I was goign to get sucked into your flamebait, but I took a moment to clear my head.
For future reference everyone, if you do not have anythign to contribute do not post in this thread.
AngleWyrm thnx for the tip, I didn't even think to see what is the most common atmmosphere type among the other races. But I do believe None is the least common. I think only that robot race has it. Which makes those planets least useful, as the atmosphere converter takes 9.5 years now to convert. So basically migration from another species is the way to go.

I think this is exactly as it should be. Maybe the cost of troops vs fighters needs to be adjusted, but airpower should beat a tank any day.

Re: Big Cheese Thread ~~~
Except for the more hitpoints part, yeah. Giving ground troops more hitpoints (via mounts, perhaps) would help boost their value and make them more tank-like vs fighters.
You could also give troops flight by setting the option in unittypes.txt. Then there's no more manoueverability issues.
