Game Duration
This is more a question about game players than game play I guess. About how long does the average game Last in turns, and in actual time. Do you play a game every night, every week, or what? I've just started playing, and I've already been playing my first game for a week (about 1 or 2 hours/night). Am I just super slow, or is this normal? P.S. Thanks to everyone for making newcomers feel welcome. I've been on other sites where the members wouldn't give the newbies the time of day.

Re: Game Duration
Depends what you're doing. For example, if my goal in a single player game is to kill all the AIs as fast as possible, it will usually only take 100-150 turns (with many difficult/high or difficult/medium), over two or three sittings, a few hours each. If I want to conquer, usually takes 200-250 turns, and the length of the turns are much longer, since I have to worry about securing captured planets/systems, and redistributing population. The game I'm doing right now is a "ClusterWars", which was popular a while ago, I don't hear is much now though. I am keeping myself isolated until I can research sphereworld tech from low starting tech (high cost, too ), and build one. I got the tech around turn 360, and I warded off AI invasions around turns 175 and 250. It is now around turn 380, and the generator is under construction. I think I've put about 90 hours into it so far, over a month.
So, to put it simply, it depends Everyone is different, and every game is different.

Re: Game Duration
I have played hotseat games that have Lasted for 3 months playing 2-3 hours a couple days a week. SE4 requires a good attention span.

Re: Game Duration
Of course, the Play-By-Web games can go on for many months at one turn/day or so.

Re: Game Duration
I have never finished a solo game. The longest I made it was about 500 turns
I have played in 10 PBEM games.
3 were finished. The longest was >400 turns
2 are going on now and the rest were cancelled.

Re: Game Duration
I have finished one game. It was soon after I recieved my copy of SE IV by mail order. It took the better part of three days (it was winter break). The game was on hard mode with an average size galaxy and with 18 races in all.

Re: Game Duration
My games have been of various lengths, however, I did finish l game all the way out just to see the ending, The end screen was very disappointing, no hulla balloo or anything, quite drab. Game Last as long as it takes to win. So hang in there, if your still alive around turn 100-150, you got a good chance. Also depends on your set up, I've been trashed within lst 25 turns and others Lasted into the hundreds, so... play and enjoy

Re: Game Duration
I think my problem is that I follow the motto Play big or go home.
Always 254 systems.
Maybe I should try a 100 system game. That way I can finish it.
