Re: Dominions and Metallica
Kappas are awesome. Metallica used to be awesome until they got greedy and paranoid and lousy at making music. I can certainly appreciate the designers referencing Metallica in the game. Zepath, is your dad a kappa? Mine's a vampire. Maybe we could start a support-group.

Re: Dominions and Metallica
The Metallica reference is correct regarding Harvester of Sorrows.
Mechanical Militia almost got named Metal Militia, but as Metallica was remarkably vehement in their hunt for copyright stuff at the time we decided on another name.
Lovecraft is more important then Metallica.
Kappas are inspired by Zepath's father.
HoneyBadgers father tried to stop the release of the game on uncertain grounds. It seems clearer now.
JK is no big fan of Metallica. I like them, but mostly they are appreciated by a couple of friends.

Re: Dominions and Metallica
It's because he doesn't care for strategy video games in general and fantasy turn-based games in particular. My dad much prefers playing the Elder Scrolls series. And being a master vampire, naturally he darkly conspires against what is good and right in the world, like Dominions.
But he's my dad, you know?

Re: Dominions and Metallica
Perhaps we can dissect the Warhammer connections next. You know, Horrors, sneaky half-humans &c.

Re: Dominions and Metallica
Warhammer borrows from other fantasy sources. Veyr little of modern fantasy is original anyways.
Horrors in Dom are more like cosmic horrors from HPL than Warhammer anyways. (the Oni's double life is kind of like the original WHFB horrors though).

Re: Dominions and Metallica
For a company that is as quick to sue as GW (once threatened to sue a friend of mine because his online nick was 'Khorne'...), they sure seem to steal about 90% of their ideas from other literature. Often quite blatantly.
