I've never quite understood how VPs work - do you get 1 VP for each special province you own, once per year or something? And how can you tell how many you have?

I presume the number of VPs chosen for victory is such that it doesn't finish until quite late on when the winner's already fairly obvious? It'd be a real shame if the game got cut short prematurely, so I'm sort of inclined towards the gentleman's agreement. But I've heard a few people say they think the fact that the devs have added victory points is a really good thing, so maybe they'd be more fun than I'm imagining. I suppose it could add an element of excitement to have key provinces to battle over.

Just some thoughts, no real conclusions there!
