Re: Is there a battlefield map mod for Dom III?
You could probably just use the one from DomII (Don't have, nor a link, so don't ask )

Oh, wait, Gandalf linked to the Dominions 2 one. At any rate, here it is. http://www.dom2minions.com/Mini.shtml

Re: Is there a battlefield map mod for Dom III?
Rather than use Shift-I to obtain commander and unit numbers, it's easier to just enclose their names within quotation marks, just as Gandalf has done for magic items.
For example:
#commander 356
#unit 10 369
is equivalent to:
#commander "onyx priestess"
#unit 10 "nightmare"
Either creates an Onyx Priestess commanding 10 Nightmares.
Edit: Thanks for the correction. I've changed it here, too.

Note: quotation marks, not parentheses.

Re: Is there a battlefield map mod for Dom III?
Ok, fellows. I downloaded the map, but I don't seem to be able to edit the map file to try differnt unit combinations.
In fact, I can't even open it in order to edit it. I tried with both MS Word and NotePad and neither worked. What program do I need to edit the map file?
Thanks in advance.

Actually, to be more specific, when I do open the map file with either MS Word or NotePad, or I see is garbled, indecipherable language.

Re: Is there a battlefield map mod for Dom III?
That's strange. The .map file should be just plain text file, which can be opened in all possible text editors (although I find that Notepad might show newlines as boxes, and use Wordpad in those cases).
