I am using FireFox 2.0 on three different PCs and haven't had a single crash on any of them. The only issue I had was the "Unable to create ActiveX control {0000-0000-0000....etc)" error, which I searched the net about and was able to remove by downloading an updated FireFox DLL. Now all is well.

If you want to save swf files to your hdd, you can go into Options > Content and click the Manage button next to file types. Find swf and change the action taken by the browser. You can play swf files in various video apps, such as Media Player Classic.
