Default PDFs for the manual / spells / items

Where are the PDFs for the manual / spells / items?

In Dom2 there were nice item and spell PDFs that you could search and put up on your nice big computer screen.

The manual is nice, but having PDF version that you can search would be better.

There aren't any yet. Zen was the one to do the item PDF for Dom2 and I haven't seen him around.

There will be a list of units, weapons, armor, sites and items as soon as I get it done, and whether or not somebody wants to make a PDF based on those will be anotehr matter. The weapons list is roughly halfway done and will be ready by next week. Hopefully the same for armors, it'd be nice to put those out together. Sites are ready but for terrain codes and I need to talk to IW to sort some unclear things out before I release that list. Units will take a while yet because there so damned many of them. Fort and poptype lists are already out.

I don't know if it's just me, but there seems to be a completely unrealistic expectation of the level of documentation for Dom3 based on the fact that people like me put in several months worth of work to producing that kind of thing for Dom2 over the course of more than two years.

We're talking about the game being out for no more than four or five months. I'm the one who's doing a big part of the heavy lifting towards producing this documentation and I've only had the game since late November. So, unless somebody else wants to pitch in and start creating things from scratch, everyone is bloody well going to have to wait until I get things done.

Thus endeth this rant.

Edi

Even if they (the devs :-) ) released the manual in pdf form that would be a big help.

They don't want to (ar at least Shrapnel doesn't), as a kind of piracy limitation measure.

That wouldnt be a good idea. I play with 2 screens in front of me and even then I cant see a need for the whole manual as a file. That would tend to help the people who have no manual far more than it would be of use to people who do have a manual.

The players tend to create files for the things that need quick-ref.

The whole manual, no, there's no reason for it. The spell and item charts, though, would be very nice.

Yeah. Hard to say if its working, but it does have some effect, given all the "I lost my manual" posts lately.

Nothing stops anything. Thats true of any law, rule, or effort. But we still put locks on our front doors dont we?

I always figure its more of a "as much as possible, for as many as possible, for as long as possible". In that case, its probably doing some good. At least, enough to make it worthwhile.

I also notice newbie questions getting asked in the Dom2 forum again.
