Question: Is environmental research possible?
I sort of crippled my races ability to reproduce. I think maybe if I can research environmental studies my people will be able to actually breed. Using alltech will get the tech but otherwise there seems no way to research it. The files say it only needs cultural studies, but this DOES NOT allow you to research it.
Using alltech shows it doesn't actually improve breeding for me but still I'd like to know why it can't be researched normally.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
Probably because it doesn't do anything. Kidding aside, I have no idea..

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
Well, in stock SE V you only need Cultural Studies, in the Balance Mod it needs that and Level 2 Biology. It increases enviromental resistance, but I'm unsure how much that in turn increase reproduction.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
First you need "Cultural Studies" lvl one, then you need "Environmental Sciences" level one, then for every level you attain you gain a one percent increase to your resistance of environments. So to see any real benefit you need to get up there in levels first. However, if you want them to have more babies why don't you do "Leisure Services Achievement"? It's only effect is to increase reproduction. Or you can build "Medical Lab"'s on your planets which increase reproduction too. Depending on your tech area access you can also do "Gestation Vats". Finally you have the option to build "Genetic Recoding Lab" which will give the biggest bang per level of tech area.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
This same problem can happen with other attributes such as happiness and loyalty. There are many things that affect happiness, but I think only 2 cultural achievements in stock affect loyalty. It's important to have a plan on how you are going to manage all the attributes that affect your population. The best way is to read thru the data files to have an idea of how everything affects everything; it's a little complex until you get the hang of it.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
Doh, I totally forgot I was playing balance mod. Balance mod is the basic game for me, I don't think I've played a stock game properly.
I crippled my race by giving them reduced environmental resistance as well as reduced reproduction. It turns out I can't reproduce at all now. Still it's good to have all those ways to increase it.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
I've tried that too. If you take every single racial disadvantage in balance mod, then that gives you just enough points to get all the special techs: organic, temporal, religious, crystalline, psychic. Then you have a weak, dumb and unhappy race that's bad at everything but eventually, if you survive long enough to do lots of research, you'd become pretty powerful.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
My race are Fauxlians (figure that out )
When I wrote the description, something only I seem to do to any extent, I actually mentioned they were slower to reproduce than biological races and required certain environmental conditions to grow. Little did I know their reproduction would require longer than the game goes for.
One possible solution is capturing aliens and using them for slave labour.

Re: Question: Is environmental research possible?
They're a silicon race that are basically, apart from their name, Tholians from Star Trek.
faux means a cheap copy, so Tholians become Fauxlians
