Speaking of books...

Does anyone know of a good comprehensive guide to Soviet Armored Vehicles during WW2 along the lines of Peter Chamberlain's British and American Tanks of WW2 and Encyclopedia of German tanks of WW2?

Well, I walked over to my shelves and grabbed "Russian Tanks 1900-1970" by John Milson, subtitled "The complete illustrated history of Soviet armoured theory and design".

Here's the Amazon.com link, seems there are copies available.

Damn, I just remembered I had that . I bought it years ago on a trip to Memphis, Tennessee (holy crap, 21 years ago!) and it got stuck on a shelf and I never got around to reading it. Well, now it's on my "to be read next" shelf

I think I remember looking at that book (Russian Tanks 1900-1970). If I remember correctly it's very out-of-date, obviosly, and some information is incorrect or missing. Since it was written in the 1970s, when a real lack of information existed about Soviet tanks.

I wouldn't reccommend it as a defintive, up-to-date, and correct guide. Its more important in gaging what the west knew of Soviet vehicles in the 1970s then accurate information.

True, it's just the best I have. There's also Russian Tanks of World War II by Joseph Page. From the reviewer recommendations it sounds pretty decent.

Anyone read Soviet Tanks and Combat Vehicles of World War Two
by Steven J. Zaloga? I've found a couple copies on Amazon, but since it's out pf print they're big money ($100!).

Soviet armor is definitly Zaloga's fortay, so I would assume it'd be pretty good. He's pretty good when it comes to researching such things.
