Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
Yes (but the caster doesn't have to stay there after casting).
The requirement makes sense in terms of game mechanics, too; otherwise you wouldn't be able to put more than one dome up without serious risk of having the (targeted) second dome smacked by the first one already there.

Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
On the question of domes; do players use them much at all in multiplayer?
Domes are expensive and with so many provinces it's hard to predict which possible province needs to be protected. And if BOTH players know which province is going to be attacked, there are absolutely tons of ways to attack it, other than ritual spells.
The domes that work well are expensive to maintain, and are still not 100% effective. It just seems like a pretty rare event that someone will cast some 30 gem ritual at you only to be blocked by your dome. I guess, around the end game the pop depleting spells and your capital are the only obvious targets to attack and block.

Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
In late game i normally cast air/nature domes in some important provinces which aren't near any border. I rarely cast the other domes because of the turn limits. But in some cases i use them too.

Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
Astral Dome is the best deal IMO, good % of stopping spells and not that expensive, and I always try to cast it at least on my home province + any other capitals I've captured.

Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
But astral dome needs extra gems for every turn it should last so i would say its expensive in a long run. I'm to stingy to spend extra gems if not needed

Re: Question on Casting Dome Spells
I think I've heard of people casting Dome of Corruption as a trap (on a narrow chokepoint - force your enemy to walk through the Dome to get to you). Besides that, I haven't heard of any other dome uses in MP.
