You think internet slang is bad, imagine poor Canadian me dealing with heavy English accents and Cockney rhyming slang when I spent a year in the UK! I went on a blind date with a Geordie lass and we literally could not understand each other. It was more of a blind and deaf date. As someone said, North America and the UK are two cultures, divided by a common language.

That is not just a problem encountered by Canadians I'll have you know, I am from Kent (the Alabama of England) and when I first met a Geordie, I thought they were Polish

I take it this means you were unsuccessful then!!
As someone said, North America and the UK are two cultures, divided by a common language.
I would prefer to say two unrelated cultures, miles apart, one with better dietary habits and one of which speaks a bastardised Version of the other's language and as for culture??!!
