Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Well that was annoying.
Apparently I needed to delete the old .2h file, before connecting again.
The server took it, ran the turn, realized it was a turn from another game and staled me.

Is there anything I can do on the server to fix this?
On another note, I now see the 'crowns' on the map. I don't know why they are there, and they aren't just part of the .tga image. You can see the command I started the game with in the first post of this thread, and I didn't do anything to turn victory points on.

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
At this point, nothing other than another restart.
For future reference, using a different name for the game would have prevented it.
If I hadn't been last it wouldn't have mattered either, because it wouldn't have hosted right away.
Those crowns aren't on the map in a local test game I started. I don't know what they are. Someone take one of those provinces and see if there's anything special there.

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Geez...
Is the Independent Strength turned way up, or am I just unlucky? Everything around me is 50-70 strong. My starting army just got owned by a 40 strong indy, that was half knights!
Slow expansion for me, I think...

Unlucky it is! The game's running with default indys.
But just think of all those knights you'll be able to churn out once you take that province! (I always find elephants and knights sitting around in farms, though, and end up being able to build about 1/3rd of an elephant per turn.)
As I'm sure you know, sometimes you start off in nice territory, some times you don't. My last MP game, my castle bordered an ocean province and a swamp. That was it, 2 provinces. I took the swamp after a massive battle, and broke out of my confinement into ... a vast stretch of wasteland. I was eliminated pretty fast, but I had fun though! (I was Agartha and avoided the ocean province because my scouts said it contained Sea Trolls and a Kraken. But then I was absolutely forced to take that province later, and it was a much easier battle than I thought. Live and learn I guess. Or die and learn, in my case!)

They have a good listing of neutral units in the very end of the manual. It's a great way to asses the strength of neutral provinces.

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Marverni offers congratulations to Arco on their apparently most excellent recovery from a somewhat unfortunate start!
In contrast, Marverni's rapid early expansion came to a crashing halt when it became embroiled in conflict with other nations. Our researchers have all had to take up part time employment as clergy, to plead with our Pretender to forgive us for our imprudent strategies, and return to Aran.

Good game everyone! It looked like I got smushed, teaching me the lesson of what happens when you pick a fight with the Vans before your anti-Van research is done. Doh!

The latest report shows you with 1 Victory Point, and you just took a province with a crown, right?. So, it's a Victory Point.
That is kind of weird, because, this is exactly how I started the game, minus the master password: Code:
dom3 -T -S --port 8098 --noclientstart -q --uploadmaxp 6 --scoredump --mapfile aran.map --renaming --era 1 -s b3
Can anyone help explain how victory points could have become enabled? Or how we can find out if there is a victory point condition, and if so, what it is?
