Events are affected by many things. Possibly another scale or setting that you take is setting you up for that one.

I have that event twice. Each time the temple that was destroyed happened to be one that was constructed by a lucky event a few turns earlier.

I've been playing with Luck 3 in the Utterdark game and I've never had so many bad events (we're around turn forty or so, though some of us will be leaving soon heheh ) in any game I've played thusfar. Even those games where I've had misfortune scales.

I've lost two temples, been invaded by the hardcore archmage/troll raider and two or three other incredible heroes crew, and been overrun with trogolodytes twice - oh and a third time in a contested province I'd just taken but largely had luck scales in tact. Plus a few small standard negatives like losing a hundred gold, or brigands, or witch cursing, blah blah etc. Other stuff I can't recall, too. I'm pretty sure nobody else has been causing the fun, as it's normal and all.

Positive events have merely been *maybe* a few random gems or 200 gold, and one time 2000 gold (or a lot anyway, it may have been 3000). But what gains it gave me were so verily not worth the hassles that could have been avoided with different scales, as well as having 120+ more points to spend elsewhere are simply mindboggling.

Needless to say, I will never use +3 luck in multiplayer again. heheheh

If any of you have had great experiences with luck 3 in MP, I'd sure like to hear about them.

I have twice played MA Man with turmoil-3, luck-3, growth-3 and played LA Caelum with same scales. I would say 9/10 events have all been good. Lots of extra gems, gold, magic items, national heros, great. The only annoying bit is the 'free' troop events, when you get a horde of militia. Also LA Caelum I got bogus raiding my lab and stealing all my blood slaves, but I have solved that by keeping all my blood slaves on my bane lords, still a mircomanagement pain thou.

Played MA Ermor with T-3, L-3, D-3, M-3 and got loads of great events. Loads and loads of free gold (lots of 1,000gps and 2-3 3,000gps, fire gems and a magic item. Also 3 free loremasters.

On the downside I no longer take T-3, L-3 with any water nation, both as EA Atlantis and EA Oceania I get lots of bad events in the sea/water provinces. Lots of unrest and province attack events in particular.

Oh yea, I have had a ring of sorcery twice in 2 different games with T-3, L-3 and I got a ring of wizardary once from a random event but I had order-3 then strangely enough!

Tromper, I think that you had an extrememly rare case of bad luck. I have played with luck 3 before, and I haven't had anything close to that bad of luck.

Generally I find that the amount of gold you get with high luck, low order, doesn't equal what you would you get from a high order scale, but it comes reasonbly close. But money isn't the only benefit of luck. You get gems too. If I pick a pretender that uses magic that the rest of my mages don't, which makes it much harder to find those gems, it will sway me towards having a luck scale.

In a recent multiplayer game as pythium I was experementing with order 3 and luck 3. I am not sure if it is worth it to go with both order and luck, but it was fun to try it. I was able to get 5 fire gems from a lucky event. Those gems were enough to enable me to cast flaming arrows, which made a huge difference in the nation I was fighting. In that game the luck scale was worth it, for those 5 gems alone. The rest of the events weren't spectacular but did allow me to build extra castle's and labs, and maybe increased my overall gem supply by a quarter.

Meglobob, I think you were unlucky with those sea nations. In my first game as EA Atlantis with luck 3 trumaoil 3, I happened to get PD increased events exactly where I wanted them, and many 1000gp sunken ship events. Sea nations I think is one of the better places to have luck because you are likely to have less provinces then a land nation, you only have those 20 admin castles, and for the extra chance to get the hard to find (in the water) air gems.

People complain about those random militia events, but I have never had a problem with them. I usually throw them into some castle to hold off a siege, or to act as foder should some nation decide to try zap my researchers with a ritual spell.
