http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Marid#Disputed

Marid is an arabic word generally translated as "Devil", sometimes "Giant", "Ogre", etc. Westerners decided that it must be somehow related to the western word Marine, and thus to water - but this isn't true, it's cognate to other Semitic words meaning "rebellious".

In 1,001 arabian nights, Marids are simpler bigger and more powerful Efreet.

Read this too:

Now, I know that we're not constrained to use "authentic" folklore, and that we can use four-element jinn if we want to go to western sources, just like we don't have to use "authentic" ninja or alchemists or anything else.

However, in this case, I think it'd be much better to use the more folklorically accurate Jinn from the Qu'ran - who are all made out of smokeless fire.
I stand corrected. I didn't think of D&D, spesifically, but fantasy literature and some other games. Thanks for the correction.

In order to make this easier on me, do you mind if I just copy the Djinn and Efreet from the Black Tome, Doc?

Not at all. I'm going to e-mail you something later today - sorry for the delay, it was a weird week.

It's alright, but on second thought, I think I'm going to go with the D&D based Jinn. Thank you for coding all of this stuff for me, I'll just clean it up a bit and add descriptions and get back to work on the sprites. After I finish that, the first version of Al-Murrah will be ready for testing.

I've also decided to change the armor a bit and give everyone with a ring mail hauberk or any scale mail a chain cuirass instead. I'd also like to mod the national spells as well, but I'm not sure how. I'd like to have a national Fire enchantment giving a small area of sacreds Fire immunity and fire shield, but I don't know how to do anything not mentioned in the modding manual. I was thinking of just copying the stats of Fire Shield and giving it a range and AoE, wondering if that would work.

The word "Marid" also has connotations with disease.

Hard as it is to believe, I'm not even ready for a beta yet...I'm sort of easily distracted...Not to mention I start school again soon...
