Majorly annoying in the really big games, when you actually want (and are able to) forge your entire laboratory worth of slots in one turn...

If you were feeling really evil you could send an enemy a few dozen cheap magic items, screwing up whatever they were trying to forge that turn. A waste of gems, to be sure, but definitely evil.
I'm at work, so I can't check, but is it possible to destroy a magic item directly from the lab? If not, sending an enemy a bunch of some obnoxious cursed item could be rather inconvenient...

Luckily, it is possible to throw away items straight from the lab. Otherwise you could bombard the enemy with slave collars.
