Default Newbie question.

How do I create a sphere world? I can't seem to create a ship large enough to contain the supplies, that is not a starbase.

When I created my Sphere/Ring worlds, I had to create a shipyard ship and move it to the location that I wanted the ring/sphere world. Then I was able to build starbase sized vessels with the needed components. Once you have all the components built (it will take quite a few starbases to have everything you need) then you will be able to go to the ring/sphere world button in the stellar event (I think that is where it was) and create it.

It helps to have a bunch of ship yard ships working on multiple components, otherwise it takes FOREVER!

There is a good step by step description in the thread :

Ring/Sphere world construction

and another thread

Ring/Sphere 2

Hope all this helps

You have to build Space Yard Ships, and either use one SYS to build base space yards and use them to build the components, or build a fleet of SYS and move them from star to star, building up the required starbase hulls to build the ringworld/sphereworld.

Just another piece of advice about ring/sphere worlds that tripped me up (briefly) the first time I built one: you don't get an automatic colony on it; you have to build a colony ship and colonize the ring/sphere world. (I know, it seems obvious, but not necessarily).

Oh, and a little trick (just in case you're playing against an opponent who's either reckless or overconfident, or even sneaky): after you've built the ring/sphereworld, leave all those extra space yard ships there to build troops/fighters/weaponplatforms/satellites or even defense bases to defend the ring/sphereworld. That allows the planet construction queue to concentrate on building facilities. (And again, maybe that was obvious, but I don't always do this for colonies, just the important and/or vulnerable ones).
