Re: Request: A way to extract/copy text descriptio
Wow, thanks, strings worked. I didn't know this app. Very nice.

I use Kubuntu with plans to switch to Debian once I get new hardware. I use ksnapshot for screenshots.
-----------------
That's not the point. Strings may work, but it's not exactly convenient way of showing off. Not the kind of thing you can just send over IM whenever something interesting happens. It's better than nothing, but screenshots are likely better for bragging and and getting people into the game.

How does Ksnapshot work? Is it satisfactory, am I taking this thread in the wrong direction talking about screenshots? If it isn't what doesnt it do that you are looking for?
Well... I don't have much to offer on the subject right now, but I'll chime in if I think of something later.

Re: Request: A way to extract/copy text descriptio
If you like strings, you may want to look into grep. That command finds all occurrences of a regular expression in a file, which makes finding a particular description quite a bit easier. For a simple example, grep "Starspawns are ancient" <file> gives the one matching description.
If you are into screenshots, I'd suggest using the scrot program. Besides having the worst name ever, this program takes screenshots through a command line interface, so you can easily write a 'take screenshot after 10 seconds and upload it to FTP and send URL somewhere' one-shot script.

Neither solution is *quite* what you ask for, of course, but that should still be more convenient than typing descriptions by hand.

 | Sweet! Sounds like my kindof toy. If I used Xwindows to play Dom I would definetly want to remember that one.

 | Press "Print Screen", receev screenshot. Yeah, I use it when I do screenshots, it does the job. That or the Screenshot tool (via Import or something) from GIMP. |
