What are the victory points? Are there VP provinces in this game? If so, and I take one from a player with one VP, does that mean I now have 1 VP and he has none?

The little crowns on the provinces in the map. Each VP raises your pretender's dominion by one.

How many VPs do we need to win? I wasn't aware this was a VP game.

its not, those are just part of the scoring. I'm not sure the relationship between the score graphs in the game, and the scores as they are on the web page.
