Re: Never ask a lady her age
Well, if we're not that educated to begin with, we get that way fast. That's part of the game experience, there's so much to learn.

Re: Never ask a lady her age
I have to disagree about the education. I've met a number of 4X gamers who know a lot who nevertheless didn't make it through college.
That is, assuming we're talking about a classical education.

I'm 42. It's the answer to life, the universe, and everything you know. So I should be unstoppable in all the MP games.

Re: Never ask a lady her age
I guess what I was trying to say is that ancient/medieval history isn't exactly taught on the streets. At least it wasn't where I grew up. Considering most other 4x games are based on pure imaginings, I'm sure they're easier to get into. I mean, Dom 3 can be enjoyed by anyone, but I like it because I find the thematic stuff interesting.
For example, I'm a big buff of the Byzantine Empire. Buff as in I have read giant books about them. Ergo, my favorite nation is Pythium. Because I can BE the (weirdly snake loving) Byzantine Empire and go against the tide of history and actually win.
YMMV

Re: Never ask a lady her age
The 4x games I've played have way more history stuff than dominions, from what I understand. But into wargaming through history, so I may be biased.
Europa Universalis 1+2, Legion, Chariots of War, Spartan, and arguably the TW series...

Re: Never ask a lady her age
Very well, you're likely right. I haven't played any of those but TW (which, come on, actually uses real nations and mangles them, Roman ninjas, anyone?), so for all I know they could be spot-on historically.
I like that Dom is FANTASY nations that build on a well researched framework of actual Earth history and mythology.

Sorry. I'm 42 also. I just lost my first MP game but it's not really fair as I lost it during initial empire placement.
*EVERYTHING* around me was forest or swamp--I simply couldn't field that large an army.

Being addicted to 4x games has a way of keeping you from graduating college

Re: Never ask a lady her age
I never even went to college-I dropped out of highschool, for that matter.
I can say that with pride, since I have a decent job (that was held by atleast 1 person in our company with 7 separate degrees), a wife, and a mortgage.
I still want to go to college though, after the mortgage (hopefully, not after the wife, if she can stand putting up with me that long).
