Finally someone mentioned Wagner as suitable combat music. I'd recommend Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Bach, Bartok, Beethoven (especially Beethoven's 5th!), maybe Dvorak, Grieg, Orff, Rakhmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Shostakovich as other combat-suitable music. You could try Sousa for a more modern-sounding background too...

For other parts, I'd suggest Gershwin, Strauss, Copland, Herb Alpert... how's that for an eclectic mix? Ragtime, lounge, showtunes, and German waltzes (in no particular order, obviously). How can you go wrong?

I've been using a collection called "Classical Thunder", which includes most of the composers on Tsaarx' list. When I launch SE IV, the intro screen plays Strass' "Also sprach Zarathustra" (aka "Dawn" theme from _2001_).
