Ahem, there is also a lovely border view somewhere in the window below the alien head.
You can see the location of the races for every known system there, even with radio buttons to switch on/off some races.

Re: Making notes on a map - suggestion
I know about border view but it doesn't give enough info. Is the system just colonised with a tiny colony or is it full of heavily defended systems?

Re: Making notes on a map - suggestion
derb,
I use "NotePad". It is very easy to "Alt Tab" back and forth. Each game has its own file carefuly organized so I can find what I'm looking for. Yes, this is more work than many want to do, It works for me.

Re: Making notes on a map - suggestion
A while back, there was a thread that discussed alternate programs for taking/organizing notes.

I do agree that the system noets feature leaves much to be desired. However I did notice something interesting just today. If you make notes on a system, you can see them without actually clicking on the system. In the galaxy map view, if you mouse over each system it shows notes if there are any in the bottom margin. What would be really nice though is if you could highlight the systems that have notes without having to mouse over them. And it would also be nice to see the notes on the system map somewhere.

I use this all the time to gauge borders... but it doesn't work if another empire decides to claim NO systems in that map. I've seen a few players do that....
