Re: There\'s a pretender type with \'em.
Aye, they come with one of the SC Pretenders, Kali I believe. Virtue, another SC comes with a Flambeu too. Good stuff if you are going up against EA Yomi.

Yep, the Kali. Davana's have similar weapons that affect mortals instead.

Re: There\'s a pretender type with \'em.
Yep, so the real issue is not what demonslaying weapons there are out there, but rather how many demonslaying options are available to enemy nations at different points of the game.
Given the late-game availability of battlefield-effect demon-smacking spells, using demons as chaff may not be a good idea, though I defer to those who have more experience as demon-handlers

killing demons
Yeah, autochthon, that's sort of my question I guess. I've heard people talk about the power of demons in late game, but I worry that these items specifically designed to hurt them would make them actually weak in late game. But having not played much, I don't have a great feel for how common these items are, or what the demon race can do to counter the counters.

Flambeau does not do fire damage, it does 3x damage against demons and undead + the fire effect. Fire resistance on demons only protects against the extra fire, they take 3x damage from the normal blow, meaning 3x(str+weapon damage) and that's going to hurt.

Re: Killing Demons
Even with the anti-demon measures, demons, properly used, are incredibly dangerous.

Re: Killing Demons
Yeah, it's like tanks in modern wars. Sure, you can use anti-tank weapons to take them out, but you can't really depend on having them on hand every time they show up.
Anti-daemon measures are quite effective, if you've got them at hand.

Re: Killing Demons
Water has a nice 2 handed sword which grants fire immunity and does double damage with some great base damage 18 or so from the top off my head, and it only costs 5 water gems.
