A new game/dev to work w/ Illwinter & Shrapnel!

Uh, first, why do you post this in the forum for Illwinter's Dominions 3 game instead of the general Shrapnel forums?

Next, what makes you think that this game needs help? It's freeware, and it is successful. It has received lots of awards already. The creator seems to like it being freeware and living on donations only.

Dwarf Fortress is the successor to Slaves to Armok: God of Blood, a hack and slash role-playing game. Dwarf Fortress discarded God of Blood's 3D graphics in favor of a text user interface and incorporated economic and strategy modes. On-screen displays utilize code page 437 characters in 16 different colors, and the developers state that graphic representation is not a significant focus.

There you have it, straight from Wikipedia's page on Dwarf Fortress. The predecessor had 3D graphics. This was scrapped in Dwarf Fortress, so it must have been done for a reason. Probably a hommage to the Roguelikes out there.

There are already sprite packs for the game. The game does not seem to need any of the help you mentioned if its community can provide this on its own. And it doesn't need to get marketed. See here:
