There doesn't seem to be any clear answer:

Re: Question on Eye Shield
Wow I never thought that shield was so useful. I've never used one personally (yet) but at con2 that's pretty damn good.

Re: Question on Eye Shield
I don't have a definitive answer, but I had the same question myself and after testing it out it seems to be resisted by head protection. Units with a good helmet are much less likely to loose an eye. Defense & MR don't seem to help at all, nor body protection.
Also, units with more than two eyes will never lose all their eyes (go blind), they just gain the affliction "lost some eyes". Naturally blind units are not affected by eye loss.

Re: Question on Eye Shield
I would have assumed it was just the spell "blindness" and can be resisted via MR?
In my experience anything with a pretty high MR (20+?) is pretty much immune to it. I never have a problem of eye loss when I go toe-to-toe SC vs SC when the opponent has an eye shield.
It seems to be much more effective against troops that can't get a high MR.
Thats my (limited) experience at least...

Re: Question on Eye Shield
I tested it out with ice devils vs a risen oracle holding an eye shield and slapping a black plate helm on the ice devil dropped the eye loss from infrequently to very rarely. Buffing defense, MR, and body protection had no noticeable effect. I bet it's the fact that SCs generally have 15+ protection on their head that makes them virtually immune.
Granted, my sample set was small enough that I may be incorrect.

Re: Question on Eye Shield
Hmmm... strange. Why would head protection help against eyeloss? I don't have a whole lot of experience with it so you could be right. All my SCs most certainly have some sort of head protection (though usually just astral skullcaps).
I'd be curious to see a replication of the head prot test done 50 time both ways with a low MR unit just to see...

Re: Question on Eye Shield
It is quite possible that it works off of some mechanic that uses some amalgamation of MR and head prot to determine the end result. The Eye Shield probably triggers an attack using the Eyeloss weapon (333), which has damage listed as "spc", meaning its mechanics are unknown.
Or it just grants the same eyeloss ability that Divine Glyph and the Yomi hero Kurofumi the Master of the Shadow Blossom have. I do not know if the Eyeloss weapon and this unit ability are the same thing.

Re: Question on Eye Shield
I know Machaka spiders get the affliction lost some eyes, but suffer no negative stats from it.
Also, I have never been able to get the Great Wyrm to suffer eye loss. I guess since he has 2 heads and 4 eyes?

Re: Question on Eye Shield
Eyeloss weapon eh? I gave a unit with a whipping anti-eye tongue the seraph's ability of causing eyeloss to those that attack it, but eyeloss as a secondary effect on a weapon is much more interesting. Hopefully I'll remember this when I mess around with Jomon next.
