Re: What are the best websites?
Atrocities, I mentioned it!
quote: Well, www.spaceempires.org is going to be a great site once content gets added by Hadrian. He's always working on some far flung project.
There's http://universalshipyards.tripod.com, has lots of shipsets and is currently in a redesign stage too.
Look for Atrocities on the board and click on his link, his site has lots of shipsets too. Andres Lescano has a site too.
Unfortunately, many of the other ones are outdated and unloved, but hopefully that will change soon with the release of gold.

Re: What are the best websites?
Looks great IF, I know that you spent a bit of time re-doing the(almost)site. I took a look at your webpage, excellent work! Made me rethink the organization a bit. Do you think that the basic structure is sound? Or perhaps each and every weapon, facility, and whatnot should have it's own page? A huge undertaking (but the most complete)linked to it's own major heading (ie. facility=> space port, then what a spaceport does). Or just a basic primer that can be gleaned of of the Shapnel forum. I did start a yahoo group that is related to just strategy and tactics for space empires, my thought was a Q&A type forum. OK fingure are tired! LOL

Re: What are the best websites?
Well, maybe not an entire page for every facility and component and all. If we had 1 page (or a few if it gets really long) for all the facilities that had on it a short description of each facility, then that wouldn't be too hard to do. Something like:
Spaceport- is the basic foundation of each system. Without it, no resources within the system will be used by the empire. Make sure that it is one of the first facilities that you make in a new system.
Resupply Depot- is essential to maintaining a operating fleets of starships. Running out of supplies is very bad. Build these early in newly colonized systems that are far from your homeworld(s) in order to extend the range of your colony ships.
Mineral Miner Facility- Minerals are the back-bone of any SEIV economy. Always build many of these as early in the game as you can.
Resource Storage Stations- Build lots of these, especially on low value planets. In the early game, your empire will make more resources than you can use. You want to store as many of these excess resources as possible. Try to never allow your storage to max out. Always be one step ahead. This will help you a lot in the later stages of the game, because your empire will be able to operate in a deficit for much longer if you have a lot of stored resources. Make sure to build lots of Mineral Storage, and not very much Radioactives storage. If you have an Organic race, then store up about 1/2 as many Organics as Minerals.
Well, the Last one got kind of long, but thats just because resource storage is a very important topic.
Edit:
Do you want a graphical border for the site, or just leave it as is? Making one won't take very long (the coding aspect, anyways).

The malfador links page is way out dated and has not been updated since before I became interested in the game back in August 2000.
Your right, the best site to visit is this one. Shrapnel SEIV Intel Forum is the first-best place to get information on the game.
I agree with the Ferengi, and you can download them from my site.
I also agree that resource storage is vital to your empire. Without this basic storage infastructure, your empire will fail in the long term.
Also the value of erban pacification centers EPC's can never be underestimated. They keep your population happy and help reduce the effects of enemy intel geared toward your population.
Ministers can be helpful, but are mainly ingnorant and tempory. Use them very sparingly IMHO.

Re: What are the best websites?
IF has helped a lot with the layout of my preposed site. My thanks go out for his help, how ever this site will be a huge undertaking! Perhaps this should begin as a newbie guide, ie. the top 50 asked questions. I am willing to pay for bandwith, as a help for this cummunity. All I ask is for is constuctive ideas, and very on topic Posts. Please download IF's upgrade to my site, very good work! I do not plan on this being a Dubious Stratigy guide (as good as it was). I do ask that either you delete a catagory, or perhaps change. It is my wish to keep this under 40 web pages. Post any thoughts at http://Groups.yahoo.com/group/petemmer/?yguid=65520089 just to keep shrapnels band with low. I will of course copy and paste any content that is added to this thread to this rough draft, and publish this site when when it can make a few players happy. Will this ever be a know all? Not even possible! With them help of this community, this may be a good site!
