Blah blah sprites. Who cares - play the game, and if you enjoy it you won't either Liberal use of the 'k' key will get you used to what everything is, and it's actually pretty intuitive. Besides, now with the Z axis there will never be an isometric view. It would be ridiculous. It would be a first person game before that.
As far as I know it runs under Wine but that's about it on non-Windows machines. I also suggest having a beefy processor.

Uhh.. so that means they ARE sprite sets for the game?

Are those two pics examples of sprite packs available for the game??

Yes. I made the link a little more obvious now. Read the thread I linked to. It's a work in progress, but some people have created sprite packs for the game.

That's pretty much the exact opposite of everything that I heard so far. People usually have problems with the controls for the game. qm said something similar to http://www.metafilter.com/63759/All-go-no-show#1798368

Re: A new game/dev to work w/ Illwinter & Shrapne
There are tons of good game developers out there, doing amazing things. The trick isn't finding a good one, the trick is finding a good one that is willing to partner with Illwinter, and that Illwinter is willing to partner with, and then have that partnership turn into a successful game that we'll enjoy.
If you can arrange all that, without atleast a hundred thousand dollars financial backing, then you should stop playing games right now and go straight into politics.

Yea the game sounds awesome ... but the learning curve looks completely unattractive. I just don't have enough time to invest in learning the interface of such a complected incomplete game.
Maybe after another few years of it getting refined it will be easier to access/learn.
Edit: This sounds like another programmer or two dedicated to making the game accessible would work wonders.

I, too, downloaded and tried the game. While it sure doesn't lack any in depth and scope......it's just too damn much work. Or.....I'm too dumb to learn it.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Check out this website. A bunch of gamers each took a one year turn in succession running the dwarf fortress. Some of this is hilarious and the game looks like it could be fun, if it weren't so darn hard to learn.
