Default I\'m preaching the word of god, can\'t you hear me??

I ran into an odd situation that looks like a slight error in how preaching is handled.

I'm playing on a map I downloaded that has one extreme chokepoint. I hold the chokepoint but the enemy dominion is over it. I rounded up a bunch of preachers--it seems to be impossible to drive that dominion out no matter how much I preach there.

What I think is going on is that I'm probably succeeding in preaching it to my side (I've got some Seraph's preaching, I should be able to raise it to an 8) but then the temple checks come and drive it right back out.

Without a chokepoint like this I don't think this scenario would cause a lot of trouble but it would mean that you can't use preachers to maintain dominion in the face of enemy temples.

How I think it should work is that if the preachers produce more points than can be applied the extras are noted somewhere and enemy temple checks count against that extra before they can affect the province.

Yes, this is an extra data field but it need not be saved and thus doesn't cause file format problems or anything.

Have you built a temple there? If you have, you should be able to floor the dominion easily. Without a temple, it can be tough.

Preach Chance=30%*Holy Level -(Enemy Dominion Level * 5%)+ (30% for a temple, I think)

What he says is that the opponent have to many temples and the dominion point have nowhere to bounce but this province.

I would just raid him and start raising the temples.

I had a temple and IIRC 10 Seraphs preaching, as well as about a dozen lesser preachers.

Actually, I misunderstood how the preaching worked and thought I would be seeing more improvement per turn. I was probably kicking it up to about 8 each turn and then losing it again due to dominion bouncing into that bottleneck.

I wasn't really in a position to do much with raiding at the time I posted that but now my blood economy is ramping up very well and I've got about 1000 devils out there smashing up his empire.
