My guess is these were added as part of some other requested addition that was done. One of those "unintended consequences" and all. Off the top of my head I can't figure our what that might be though.
Maybe one of the modders that is part of the beta team will know something. Also you could try emailing malfador and asking them why that was done. If it was a mistake and removing them had no purpose, maybe they can put them back in in a patch.
