Re: OT: Building a new computer...
Anybody building their own computer should be able to work out problems without resorting to $200+ per incident calls..

People will always go with the cheaper price regardless of their situation, Human Nature being what it is.

Re: OT: Building a new computer...
Honest... my XP doesn't work that well. I have to end process repeatedly and wait 5 minutes for the process to be dumped... and single non-responsive applications are always hanging other apps.
Still, anything is better than a Mac.

I'd vote for faulty hardware (disk, memory, etc). Have a look at your Windows Event Log (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer) and check for any errors listed there.
Another possibility is malware or an incomplete uninstall of security software - in these cases a Windows reinstall would be the best option.

I agree...
MasterChiToes, sounds like you just need to reboot to clear out your memory.

not a rebooting issue... unless, rebooting within a minute of a boot is acceptable. My point is XP isn't all sugar and spice... heck, when I click apply or ok in the "Task Bar and Start Menu" XP just lets that window hang for like 30 seconds... and clearing the document list or just closing the popup are not a massive tasks.
