Re: Commander limit??
If anyone is in the same games as I am, they know that my opinion of vista is definately negative. Really vista isn't terrible, it just takes some patience to understand all the new menus and such.
I've had problems running dom3 on vista (my xp got destroyed so I had to switch). On this new computer dom3 runs very slowly especially viewing battles. Even an old win 98 (alas no internet) runs the battles many times faster. Any suggestions? By the way I'm not very knowledgable about computers - just talking about 5 operating systems makes my head spin.

Do other games work well? It could be the issue with video drivers. I once had to plug ATI X700 instead of my 8800GTS and I couldn't even unzoom map in Dominions, on totally lowest settings and tiny resolution.

Re: Commander limit??
Dominion uses OpenGL for its graphics. Some graphic cards are good with OpenGL, some aren't. What's your graphic card's type?

Both Rome Total War and Battle for Middle Earth 2 work well on this computer. I've noticed that their graphics are slightly better than dominions.
I found something that I think is the video/graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon X 1300 (0X7149)

Re: Commander limit??
Both of the games you mentioned use DirectX, not OpenGL. They do the same stuff, some graphic cards (or spesific drivers) are better at on and worse at the other. Downloading newest drivers is always worth trying.
I'm not that good with inner workings of computers either, but I remember having some trouble with an ATI card a long time ago. I think it was something like my DomII not working with an ATI graphics card until I found different drivers or something like that. Hopefully someone here is more experienced in hardware and can offer a few hints.

Re: Commander limit??
I'll definately check new drivers. How do I find them? Should I just google "ATI drivers"?
By the way, I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me. Many thanks!

Go to ATI homepage, and they'll probably have some kind of service for downloading drivers. You'll have to find drivers that work spesifically for your ATI Mobility Radeon X 1300, I think.

I don't read anyone talking about 5 operating systems.
