Re: Early game with LA Marignon
Thankyou micah. That might be the nail in the coffin for S9F9 for my angels
Which leave me with only half a dozen other options
One question. Does the other MR bonus (like the amulet) give MR above 18? |

Other bonus MR can boost you over 18, certainly.
I forget how bonus MR from the bless *and* the amulet relate, but I dimly recall that the blessing is applied to base MR.

Re: Early game with LA Marignon
Other sources of MR stack, with the exception of in-battle spells.
As a general rule you can only get one instance of a buff cast on you per battle, so Iron Will, Resist Magic, and Antimagic will not work together, you'll only get a single +4 bonus to your MR. Similarly, stuff like Gaea's Blessing won't stack with other resist spells (The various wards and warriors spells)

I'm not sure how the bless bonus interacts with other bonuses though.

Re: Early game with LA Marignon
Ha ha ha thanks for the info Micah!

I spent a bunch of time in an LA Ulm game prepping for a battle, making sure I cast Tempering the Will twice before Antimagic was cast, so that Tempering the Will would give me +4 MR while my MR was still low, and then Antimagic would stack on top of that.

I never bothered to check the stats in the battle, foolish me!

On units boosted by the Tempering the Will, Antimagic did nothing . Damn, I could have used a few more Blade Winds!

In the SC combatant arena I tried to cast resist magic, and iron will, and they did not stack for +8 MR.

Re: Early game with LA Marignon
I lost a _lot_ of Marignese mages once by getting them all to cast Phoenix Power (50% FR) and someone to cast Army of Gold (50% FR), believing it would save them from the firestorm I then cast. Nope, it didn't - they stayed at 50% FR. 26 dead mages as I recall. |

Wouldn't Army of Gold be enough to survive Fire Storm? |

Apparently not. I don't know if I said the right spell, but I mean the one where it keeps on blasting the battlefield every turn. Also they possibly (can't remember) had Phoenix Pyre, so they may have started incinerating each other. |

Re: Early game with LA Marignon
Army of gold on unfatigued troops will pretty much prevent firestorm from doing much damage, although I'm sure a few points would slip through here and there...however, having 100 fatigue as mages tend to do after a few rounds is a different story entirely. Critical hits get you killed a lot faster than the rulebook formula indicates, and I've got no doubt that the mages would die in droves even with AoG active. |
