That actually isn't how shields work for missiles. If you make the roll to parry with the shield the projectile is stopped regardless of the prot value of shield or armour. Hide shields on machakan troops can stop jotun boulders just as well, if they make the parry, as tower shields against slingstones.

That . . . Doesn't seem like it should work that way. Besides, if it does work that way, then what would shields need protection values for?

Re: Taking sea provinces (a more serious question)
The shields protection value must be for melee attack then.
But I agree that the parry rule does not make sense. You should not be able to stop boulders with a hide shield.

True, but naked Mictlani warriors shouldn't.

Re: Taking sea provinces (a more serious question)
Boulders should probably do AOE 1 damage. Everything else seems to make sense to me.

I don't want to picture naked Mictlani warriors. Naked Pan Maeneds now, that's another story.

Re: Taking sea provinces (a more serious question)
If boulders do AOE damage, it'll make storming Niefel (not sure about Jotun) forts VERY hard. Or they should be given different towers.

Re: Taking sea provinces (a more serious question)
Imo shields should work the same way as they do for melee when they parry projectiles. A hide shield and no armour should be a dodgy prospect even if it parries a crossbow bolt.
I'm just saying that isn't the way it works right now, not endorsing it.
