Having diverse magic is my priority, but I rarely design my pretender for that, I rather use empowerement if I don't find independants to complete my nation

Magic has only little importance for me, I usually base my strategies on double blesses or things like that
Assuming you don't decide to restart, the obvious thing would be to first ask for a replacement, then if you don't get one set him to AI. There seem to be lots of people keen to play MP at the moment, so you may have some luck finding a replacement.
