universe size
The largest universe i seem to be able to make is large quadrant size.
Is it possible to make it larger? I know it is because i joined a game that seems to have 10X as many systems as the map that gets created when i pick large quadrant size. How?

Re: universe size
The game files can be modded. Some one else will have to help you with that.

Re: universe size
This requires Gold for best effect. One sec and I'll show you what you need to change.

Re: universe size
OK, this is for the absolute BIGGEST galaxy you can get in the game.
In settings.txt:
"Maximum Number Of Systems := 100"
Change to 255. You also need to add more system names, or you'll get blank system names in-game. This doesn't require Gold.
I thought there were other settings controlling this, but can't find them.

Re: universe size
Nope, that's the only setting that determines the number of systems in a galaxy. There are settings in QuadrantTypes.txt that determine relatively how many of each type of system that will be in map, but not how many total. Unless, you use a weird grid type map, which could potentially limit the possible number of systems, depending on how far apart you set the systems to be, but that's just an unusual exception.

Re: universe size
I am using the Gold Map Editor to make a larger map. I see why you don't see many maps out there. I am about 1/3 done and have been working on it for 5 days now. I hope to get to about 150 star systems with 4 main clusters. I am hoping to make a large enough Map that it is not easy for people to run into each other.

You do know you can go to settings.txt and change "Maximum Number Of Systems := " from 100 to 255, download a bigger SystemNames.txt (or get it from extras on CD) file and then generate large maps with 255 systems in them when you start a new game?

Re: universe size
Yeah, the grid limits the number of systems, because they have to fit in a rigid pattern. You could lower the distance between systems, and then the grid map should get a lot more systems in it.

Re: universe size
I have noticed that system type also determines the number of systems.
It may be my eyes deceiving me but I think that grid cannot fit 255 systems
